Local-first application

NovaStudio 8.7 is a browser-based, local-first audio recorder. There is no app to download or install; it runs entirely in your web browser. Your audio recordings, project files, and song data are stored on your own device - either in the workspace folder you choose or, on browsers where a folder picker is not available, in your browser's IndexedDB storage. The application does not upload your recordings, project data, or personal files to any server operated by the developer.

Data processed by the app

• Audio: captured through your browser from the microphone input you select. Audio is processed locally in the browser and saved to your chosen local workspace or to your browser's own device storage when a workspace folder is not available.
• Workspace / storage handle: your browser may store a reference to the folder you selected, or keys for songs in the browser's own device storage, so the app can reopen them on your next visit. This is kept on your device and is not transmitted.

Hosting logs

The static files for this application are served by a hosting provider. Standard server or CDN logs (such as IP address, browser type, and requested files) may be collected by the hosting provider as part of normal operation. These logs are not linked to any recordings or project data created in the app.

Usage analytics

To understand how NovaStudio is used and to improve the app, we log a small number of anonymous, first-party usage events, such as when a recording starts or a mix is exported. These events contain no audio, no project data, no filenames, and no personally identifiable information. This telemetry does not use cookies or store anything on your device; it is processed under our legitimate interest in understanding how the app is used (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)). The events are sent to our own server and stored in Cloudflare Workers Logs for a short period. You can read more about Cloudflare's data processing in their Privacy Policy.

Data retention and browser storage

When you do not choose a workspace folder, songs and mixes are kept in the browser's own device storage. This storage is managed by your browser or device and may be cleared automatically to free up space, for example under storage management, in private browsing, or on iOS/Safari. The app cannot prevent this. Exported mixes and important songs should be downloaded and backed up separately.

Browser permissions

The app requests permission to access your microphone and, when available, to read/write files in the workspace folder you choose. On browsers without file-system access, audio is stored in the browser's own device storage. You can revoke these permissions at any time through your browser settings.

Advertising cookies

We use Google AdSense to serve ads. Google and its partners may use cookies and similar technologies to personalize and measure ads. You can manage your advertising cookie preferences through the cookie banner shown in the app. For more information, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.

We also provide a link to Ko-fi so you can support the project. Ko-fi's own privacy policy applies when you visit that site.
